Aurélien Ama Agbénonci (* 1958 ) is a diplomat and politician from Benin who has been Foreign Minister and Minister for Cooperation since 2016 .

Life

Aurélien Agbénonci completed a degree in business law at the University of Dakar , which he completed with a Magistère . He then worked as the Senior Program Coordinator and Chief of Staff of the Pan-African Center for Social Prospects PASPC (Pan-African Social Prospects Center) . He also completed postgraduate studies in institutional development, government work and environmental science at Dakar University. During a further postgraduate course in world trade law at the University of Paris-Nanterre , the so-called "University of Paris X", he was a research assistant in the law faculty of this university.

In 1996 Agbénonci became an employee of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and was initially Deputy Resident Representative of UNDP in Cameroon between 1996 and 1999 and then Deputy Resident Representative of UNDP in Ivory Coast from 1999 to 2003 . After he was the resident representative of the United Nations (UN) from 2003 to 2008 as well as the resident representative of the UNDP in the Republic of the Congo , between 2008 and 2011 he acted as the resident representative of the UN and the UNDP in Rwanda . He then acted as coordinator for humanitarian affairs between 2012 and 2013 as well as resident representative of the UN and UNDP in Mali, and from 2014 to 2016 as resident representative of the UN and UNDP in the Central African Republic . On April 25, 2016, UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon appointed him as Deputy Special Representative of the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic, MINUSCA ( United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic ) .

After Patrice Talon was elected President of the Republic of Benin on April 6, 2016, Aurélien Agbénonci was appointed Foreign Minister and Minister for Cooperation in his cabinet , with Sacca Lafia as Minister of the Interior, Romuald Wadagni as Minister of Finance and Candide Azannaï as Deputy Minister Minister of Defense.
