Aurélien Miralles (born April 7, 1978 ) is a French herpetologist . His main research interests are the skinks .

Life

From 1997 to 2001 Miralles studied at the Universities of Tours and Paris VI , where it meets the labor et biology of the population Ecosystèmes the Bachelor of Science gained. From 2001 he studied at the Muséum national d'histoire naturelle in Paris, where he graduated with a master's degree in 2002 with the thesis Systématique Animale et Végétale . In 2006 he became the dissertation Systématique moléculaire et biogeography du genre Mabuya Fitzinger, 1826 under the direction of Jean-Pierre Gasc for Ph.D. PhD at the Muséum national d'histoire naturelle. From 2002 to 2005 he carried out research with a grant from the Council for International Exchange of Scholars (CIES) and during the same period with a grant from the French Ministry of Universities and Research (Ministère de l'Enseignement supérieur, de la Recherche et de l'Innovation, MESRI). In 2007 he worked for a month at the Natural History Museum in London as part of the SYNTHESYS program . From 2009 to 2011 he took part in a research project of the Departamento Administrativo de Ciencia, Tecnología e Innovación (Colciencias Colombia) on the distribution and systematic phylogenesis of the Mabuya skink genus in Colombia . During the same period he completed his postdoc phase at the Zoological Institute of the Technical University of Braunschweig on the basis of a Humboldt Research Fellowship , where he often did research on the skink fauna of Madagascar in collaboration with Miguel Vences . In 2011 he worked as part of the SYNTHESYS program for one month each at the Natural History Museum in London and at the Muséum national d'histoire naturelle in Paris. From 2012 to 2015 and from 2016 to 2018 he had research stays at the Center national de la recherche scientifique (CNRS). Since 2019 he has had an eleven-month guest research stay at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich .

Miralles' research interests deal with the methodological and epistemological aspects of taxonomic practice, as well as with studies of adaptation to a burrowing way of life, a phenomenon that is repeatedly observed in scaled reptiles (for example, through the regression of limbs).

Miralles went on excursions to California , Mexico , the Leeward Islands (Antilles) , the Leeward Islands (Antilles) , Colombia , Venezuela , French Guiana , Uruguay , Argentina , Morocco , the Cape Verde Islands and Madagascar . He also photographed amphibians and reptiles in France , Spain , Germany and Portugal .
