The Hochstein is a mountain in the Königshainer Mountains in eastern Upper Lusatia west of the city of Görlitz in the district of Görlitz . It is located northwest of the municipality of Königshain .
The Hochstein is 406 meters high, making it the second highest point in the Königshain Mountains after the 411 meter high Ahlberg in the Fighter Mountains . In the summit area, next to a mountain inn, there is a lookout tower and some free-standing rock towers made of Upper Carboniferous Königshain granite that have been spared from the quarry , which shows clearly pronounced wool sack weathering here . The observation tower is a 22 meter high steel construction with a round observation platform. The Hochstein can be reached via a road closed to public traffic and several hiking trails.
The European long-distance hiking trail E10 runs over the Hochstein in the Niesky - Löbau section and the Jakobsweg in the Görlitz-Weißenberg-Bautzen section .
