Karlshöhe observation tower
The Karlshöhe observation tower is an observation tower in the city of Halver .
The 23.5 meter high tower was designed in 1892 by the Hagen architect Gustav Mucke and built on Karlshöhe (438.5 meters above sea level ) by 1893 . The building owner was the Sauerland Mountain Association and the construction costs amounted to 5,600 marks . The tower was inaugurated with a grand ceremony on July 10, 1893. The view from the tower extends far into the Bergisches Land and the Ebbegebirge .
On 11 May 1911, the tower became the property above the city Halver, since 1983 he is under monument protection . Several renovations were necessary to preserve the building fabric, a larger one took place between 1990 and 1992. From today's perspective, however, this work was counterproductive, so that a few years later the tower had to be closed to the public again for more than 10 years due to further structural damage. before renovation work could begin again in 2018. The lookout tower is very important to many people in Halver as a landmark. This is shown by the fact that the Halver Heimatverein's observation tower initiative was able to collect around 100,000 euros in donations for the repair of the tower by the end of 2017. The complete renovation has been completed by the end of April 2020. The planned inauguration was actually supposed to take place on May 25, 2020, but was postponed indefinitely due to the corona pandemic. On July 12th, 2020, the observation tower was officially reopened to the public by Mayor Michael Brosch.
