The Austin Head is a headland on the south coast of South Georgia . It protrudes 3 km north-northwest of Leon Head into the Undine South Harbor .
The South Georgia Survey surveyed the formation between 1951 and 1957. The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named the headland in 1958 after the American merchant Elijah Austin (1751–1794) from New Haven , Connecticut , who had sent the first two ships from the United States to South Georgia in 1790 to hunt seals.
