Austras koks is the Latvian name for the “tree of the east” (also “tree of twilight”) in Baltic mythology . The tree is said to grow from the point of sunrise along the canopy to the point of sunset ( dusk ).

Austras koks has silver leaves , copper roots and golden branches . It is usually accepted as an oak that grows along the Daugava in Kurzeme , Vidzeme or Latgalen . Austras koks symbolizes the course of the sun and the world order. Austras koks refers to the daily rhythm and represents the human conception of the world and spirituality.
