The AMSA (abbreviation for Austrian Medical Students' Association ) is a politically independent association by and for medical students in Austria in the cities of Graz , Innsbruck , Krems , Linz , Salzburg and Vienna . The association has existed since 1997; previously the AMSA was a project of the Austrian Students' Union (ÖH).

The AMSA sees itself as a platform for medical projects and initiatives, such as the clinical and research exchange , the achtung ° love project or the teddy bear hospital. The goals of the association are to support medical students and their projects and to improve the health situation nationally and internationally (public health).

Internationally, the AMSA is organized through its umbrella organizations, the IFMSA (International Federation of Medical Students 'Associations) and Europe-wide through the EMSA ( European Medical Students' Association ).

structure

Like the IFMSA, the AMSA is divided into six working areas (standing committees):

The current standing committees (departments) of the AMSA
  • Internship exchange (SCOPE - Standing Committee on Professional Exchange)
  • Research exchange (SCORE - Standing Committee on Research Exchange)
  • Public Health (SCOPH - Standing Committee on Public Health)
  • Reproductive Health (SCORA - Standing Committee on Reproductive Health including AIDS )
  • Human Rights and Peace (SCORP - Standing Committee on human Rights and Peace)
  • Medical Education (SCOME - Standing Committee on Medical Education)

General Assembly

The national general assembly takes place twice a year as the highest decision-making body. Each time it is organized by a different Local Committee (Graz, Innsbruck, Salzburg, Vienna) in Austria. In the course of the general assembly, national decisions are made and discussed and voted on by the association members, and the posts of the extended board are chosen. The agenda of the general assemblies typically includes training sessions for the members, the plenary in which decisions are made, social events, various themed events, as well as team building and the exchange between the individual standing committees and local committees.

The AMSA also takes part in the General Assembly (GA) of the IFMSA twice a year. Each GA takes place in a different country. In the GAs, agreements are made between the NGOs (non-government organizations) in the various countries. Here, too, training courses take place in an international context. The exchange of experience between the NGOs and socializing are intended to promote cooperation between the NGOs.

The last General Assembly took place on October 28-30, 2016 in Salzburg. The last General Assembly took place in Malta in March 2016.
