Autacoid

As autacoids (from the Greek. Autos = self and akos = healing) will be different endogenous vasoactive substances summarized. They can have a paracrine or autocrine effect and belong to different chemical classes .

The autacoids include the vasoactive substances and prostaglandins , thromboxanes , leukotrienes and histamine , serotonin , angiotensin II , bradykinin , kallidin and the platelet-activating factor formed in the endothelium .

While some autacoids play an important role in local blood flow regulation, others act in inflammatory processes and hemostasis .
