Rudi Busse

Rudi Busse (born November 21, 1943 in Bayreuth ; † June 27, 2007 in Freiburg im Breisgau ) was a German physician and physiologist.

Life

Busse studied medicine at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg from 1965 to 1971 . In 1971 he passed his medical state examination and received his doctorate . After working as a scientist from 1972 to 1976 , he completed his habilitation in 1976 and was then a research assistant at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg. There he was appointed associate professor of physiology in 1980. In 1981 he changed to a professorship for circulatory research at the Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg , and from 1986 he held a professorship for applied physiology.

In 1993 Busse received a call to the chair of physiology at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main . He was director of the Institute for Cardiovascular Physiology and long-time director of the Center for Physiology.

Act

The main research interests of Busse were physiology and pharmacology of the circulatory system ; Signal transduction and gene expression in vascular cells ; Physiology and Pathophysiology of Endothelial Autacoids ; Pathogenesis of atherosclerosis and hypertension .

As the director of the Frankfurt Center for Physiology, Busse helped it to gain worldwide recognition. He was also the main initiator of the Cardio Pulmonary System Excellence Cluster (ECCPS).

He has received numerous prizes and awards, including the Paul Morawitz Prize of the German Cardiological Society (2000) and the EK Frey-E commemorative medal . Werle Foundation (2005) and the Carl Ludwig Medal of Honor from the German Society for Cardiology (2007). Since 2002 Rudi Busse was a full member of the German Academy of Natural Scientists Leopoldina .

He worked as a reviewer for the German Research Foundation (DFG) and the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation , among others .

Prof. Busse has published numerous publications and has worked as an editor, including as Associate Editor at Circulation Research and as Editorial Board Member of the American Journal of Physiology (Cell / Heart and Circulatory Physiology / Regulatory, Integrative and Comparative Physiology), the European Journal of Physiology , the Journal of Vascular Research, and Hypertension .
