Vasoactive substance
Vasoactive substances are substances that influence the vascular tone . They work through central or peripheral mechanisms.
- Vasodilators : vasodilator drugs that lower blood pressure , e.g. B. Alpha blockers , organic nitrates and nitroprusside
- Vasoconstrictors : vasoconstricting drugs that increase blood pressure, e.g. B. the ergot alkaloids and the administered as a nasal spray xylometazoline
Other vasoactive substances that are formed in the endothelium or activated on the endothelium are u. a. Prostacyclin , EDHF ( endothelium-derived hyperpolarizing factor , hyperpolarizing factor), acetylcholine , serotonin , histamine and bradykinin . In addition, vasoconstriction is influenced by systems such as the atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP), the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system (RAAS) and the sympathetic nervous system .
