Fritz Rupert Hardship

Fritz Rupert Ungemach (born February 6, 1947 in Munich ; † December 20, 2009 in Leipzig ) was a German veterinarian and pharmacologist .

Life

Hardly studied veterinary medicine at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich , where he also did his doctorate and habilitation . After working at the Federal Health Office , he accepted a professorship for pharmacology and toxicology in the veterinary medicine department of the Free University of Berlin . In 1994 he was appointed professor of veterinary pharmacology at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Leipzig , where he worked as a professor and director of the Institute for Pharmacology and Toxicology until his death.

Unfortunate research focuses were the regulation of autonomous receptors in the respiratory tract, cytotoxicity , free radicals and risk assessment of residues in food . He is the author of 240 articles, books and book chapters. Together with Wolfgang Löscher and Reinhard Kroker , he was the editor of the veterinary standard work “Pharmacotherapy for domestic and farm animals”, which appeared in 2010 in its eighth edition.

Hardly was chairman of the approval commission for consumer protection and food safety and of the management board of the European Medicines Agency . He received the Medal of Merit of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and World Health Organization (WHO) as well as awards from the Federal Chamber of Veterinarians and the Bavarian Chamber of Veterinarians . On February 4, 2015, a bust was unveiled on the grounds of the University of Leipzig's Faculty of Veterinary Medicine.
