The Auto Club 400 is a race in the NASCAR Sprint Cup , which at the Auto Club Speedway in Fontana , California is discharged. Along with the Pepsi Max 400, it is one of two races held on this speedway. Before the changes to the racing calendar in 2005, the race took place in May, since then the date has been brought forward - 2011 to March. The Auto Club 400 is a relatively new race on NASCAR's racing calendar. The first race, still known as the California 500, took place on June 22, 1997.
In the 2011 season, the race distance was shortened from 500 to 400 miles, after good experiences had already been made with the shortened race of the autumn event.
