The Ford 400 is a NASCAR race of the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series , which takes place at Homestead-Miami Speedway in Homestead , Florida . The race is relatively new to the NASCAR racing calendar and has only been driven since 1999. So far it has always been the season finale, which was mainly because it is located in a warm region of the USA , where the temperatures are still high enough in November to race.
In 1999 it started under the name Pennzoil 400 Presented by Kmart , in 2000 it was called Pennzoil 400 Presented by Discount Auto Parts and in 2001 it was named Pennzoil Freedom 400 . Ford has been the main sponsor of this race since 2002 , as well as the season finals in the other two top NASCAR divisions. Are sponsored:
- The Ford 400 in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series
- The Ford 300 in the Xfinity Series
- The Ford 200 in the Craftsman Truck Series
All races take place on the Homestead-Miami Speedway and are part of the Ford Championship Weekend .
Since the 2004 season it was the last stop in the then new Chase for the Sprint Cup . Greg Biffle has won all races since the introduction of the Chase . In 2004 Kurt Busch won the championship in Homestead with a lead of eight points over Jimmie Johnson . This was the tightest end result in NASCAR history.
NBC broadcast the races from 1999 to 2006 . In 2007 ABC took over the broadcast.
