Ernst Weltner

Ernst Weltner (born November 5, 1898 in Ippinghausen ; † June 21, 1969 in Rinteln ) was a German educator and politician ( SPD ).

Life and work

After graduating from primary school, Weltner attended the training institutes in Unruhstadt , Lissa and Frankenberg . He took part in the First World War as a soldier from 1916 to 1918 and was released from the Reichswehr in 1919 . He then continued his training at the training institute and passed the first teacher examination in 1920. In 1922/23 he completed an economics degree in Breslau . After taking the second teacher examination in 1925 and the auxiliary school teacher examination in 1926, he worked as an auxiliary school teacher in Rinteln .

Weltner was dismissed from school in 1933, arrested and politically persecuted during the National Socialist era. From 1939 to 1945 he took part in the Second World War as a soldier . At the end of the war he was taken prisoner by the Soviets, from which he was released in April 1948. He then worked again in the school service and became the main teacher in Steinbergen . Before 1933, Weltner was a member of the Rinteln magistrate.

Weltner joined the SPD in 1921 and was chairman of the local SPD association in Rinteln from 1929 to 1933. Weltner had been a councilor in Rinteln and a member of the district council of the Grafschaft Schaumburg district since 1948 . He was a member of the German Bundestag from 1949 to 1965. In parliament he represented the constituency of Neustadt - Grafschaft Schaumburg . In 1966 he became mayor in Rinteln, shortly before his death in 1969 he gave up the office due to illness.
