Auto Club Revolution

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Auto Club Revolution (ACR) is a free-to-play online racing game from the English developer Eutechnyx , which has made a name for itself in the racing game genre over the last few years with the NASCAR series for PlayStation 3 , Xbox 360 and Nintendo Wii did. The game engine is made available via a download client. The game has been in Open Beta since March 29, 2012. The German co-publisher is Stryking Entertainment GmbH .

Gameplay

In a playful way, Auto Club Revolution can be classified into the category of realistic racing games, but it is not a pure racing simulation . The focus is on the realistic implementation of the licensed racing cars, the drivable routes and the driving experience.

Composition of the game

Auto Club Revolution consists of three basic components:

  • Car racing game : 14 fictional as well as realistic courses including various route variants can be driven in the game's Open Beta. This includes routes such as Indianapolis Motor Speedway , Hockenheimring , Silverstone Circuit and Infineon Raceway . Players can race alone or compete against other players. This can be done using either the mouse and keyboard, a gamepad, or a gaming steering wheel with or without pedals. The best times are shown in ranking lists and can be viewed by all players at any time.
  • Social network : While the races themselves run in a separate game client, the social networking takes place in the browser . Friends lists, successes, chats, creating your own profile, messaging system, your own vehicle fleet, tuning workshop and leaderboards can be viewed here.
  • Vehicles and tuning parts : Every car in ACR is based on an implementation of its original in the real world. Only licensed vehicles are in the game. All cars can be changed visually and technically. The vehicle tuning components have also been implemented true to the original and affect the driving behavior of the cars.

Single player

Racetracks can be started with a car from their own fleet in single player mode. This is done using the "AI race" button. The number of laps is not fixed. Best times are saved and listed in the ranking list of the respective route, which is visible to all players.

Multiplayer

Via the “Race” button, players enter the Auto Club Revolution lobby. A racetrack randomly selected by the system and its participants are displayed. There is also the option of creating multiplayer races yourself. A maximum of eight players can take part in a multiplayer race.

Game progress and business model

To play, you must register on the official website and complete a tutorial . There are two currencies in the game: virtual credits, which are won through successes in the game, and e-coins, which are purchased for real money. At the beginning the player has a certain vehicle available. With experience points (XP) further vehicles are unlocked, so that the player receives a total of eight vehicles for free. The rest of the 40 vehicles in the open beta will be bought at the "Autosalon" with e-coins at prices ranging from 1 to 16 euros per vehicle. E-coins are also mainly required for optical upgrades. Performance upgrades can be paid for with both virtual credits and e-coins.

According to 4Players , the developer Eutechnyx announced changes to the criticized pricing in August 2012. Most of the cars should be able to be borrowed for a free test drive. In addition, there should be more opportunities to invest virtual credits.

reception

The driving experience was praised in a computer picture game test . The noticeable beta status of the game, which is noticeable in frequent crashes of the game client and uneven multiplayer races, was criticized . GameStar criticized the payment model, which made real money investments necessary after a short playing time. Spieletipps.de praised the game's physics and optics, but criticized the limited choice of cars and routes. 4Players described the pricing of the beta version as "pure rip-off".
