Autobahn chapel

The motorway chapel “Jesus - Bread of Life” is located in the “Heseper Moor” car park on federal motorway 31 ( Emden - Bottrop ) and can only be reached in a north-south direction. It is located in the Geeste municipality in the Emsland .

In November 2000 the chapel, which is ecumenically sponsored, was ceremoniously inaugurated by Catholic and Protestant clergy.

The design of the church comes from the architect Josef Wulf from Geeste. In the middle of the Heseper Moor he created a chapel designed as a "feel-good room" in the architectural style of an Emsland bakery and had it built from original peat fire bricks. The artistic interior design was in the hands of qualified designer and sculptor Dominikus Witte from Belm near Osnabrück.

The name of the chapel fits in with the bakehouse style and refers to a word from Jesus Christ : “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will not go hungry; and whoever believes in me will never thirst ”( Gospel according to John 6:35 ). The chapel offers space for around 50 visitors (seating and standing) and is open day and night.
