Distribution and occurrence
The distribution area of Autographa macrogamma extends in a narrow strip from Fennoscandinavia via Russia to China . The species prefers to colonize taiga areas .
Way of life
The moths fly in one generation between June and August. They are diurnal, twilight and nocturnal, fly to artificial light sources and have been observed during the day while sucking on flowers, for example on willowherb ( Epilobium ), limeweed ( Silene ), sweet peas ( Vicia ) or flat peas ( Lathyrus ). As a food source for the caterpillars are the leaves of various plants, and include: Globe flowers ( Trollius ), plantains ( Plantago ) and dandelion ( Taraxacum ), and sometimes they were also flour berry bushes ( Sorbus found). The caterpillars overwinter.
