Autocles

Autokles ( Greek Αὐτοκλῆς Autoklés ), son of Strombychides, was an Athenian politician, rhetor and strategist of the 4th century BC. He belonged to the Demos Euonymon . 372/71 BC He was the Athenian envoy for peace in Sparta , where he gave an unfriendly, anti-Spartan speech. 368/367 BC He was a strategist and supported Alexander of Pherai in Thrace . In September, six years later, he was sent again to Thrace as a strategist, but in the spring of 361 BC. Ordered back to Athens. There he and other strategists were charged by Apollodorus in an ice fishing trial for alleged treason of the Athenian ally Miltokythes . The outcome of the proceedings is not known, but after that Autocles no longer played a role in Athenian politics.
