Autoridad de Aviación Civil ( AAC for short ) is the state civil aviation authority of El Salvador . The headquarters are in Ilopango at the Ilopango military airfield .

history

It was founded in 1955 with the legal basis (Ley de Aeronáutica Civil). In 1994, the Deputy Minister of Transport placed the civil aviation authority under the Ministry of Economics and named it Air Transport Directorate (DGTA).

In October 2001, the El Salvador Legislative Assembly approved the new reforms of the DGTA and confirmed the autonomy of the institution. From this point on, the official name Autoridad de Aviación Civil is used. AAC is a member of the ICAO and works together with the FAA in the USA.

tasks

The main task of the authority is to issue and monitor safety regulations and guidelines for all air traffic in El Salvador in order to take preventive measures to avoid accidents. In its range of tasks, it is comparable to the German Federal Aviation Office and the European Aviation Safety Agency . For example, AAC issues licenses for airlines and issues aircraft registration numbers , approves airfields, monitors the airspace , trains aviation personnel , such as pilots and air traffic controllers , and creates safety and aviation regulations .

AAC is also the publisher of the AIP (Aviation Manuals and Procedures). The AAC has adequate staffing and resources to investigate accidents and incidents, to compile the aircraft accident reports in cooperation with agencies and external experts and to order appropriate measures.
