Ave Maria (Cherubini)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Ave Maria by the Italian composer Luigi Cherubini is his setting of the Ave Maria . It was created in 1816 and is essentially a duet between a soprano voice and an English horn .

The 76-bar solo motette in F major requires a string accompaniment in addition to soprano and cor anglais ; As an alternative to the English horn, a flute or clarinet can also be used. While the cor anglais plays a very lively melody, the voice guidance of the soprano is kept relatively calm.
