The subway station Avenue Émile Zola is an underground station of Line 10 of the Paris Métro .

location

The station is located in the Quartier de Grenelle in the 15th arrondissement of Paris . It is located lengthways under Avenue Émile Zola west of Rue du Commerce.

Surname

The name gives the avenue Émile Zola. Émile Zola (1840–1902) is considered one of the great French novelists of the 19th century. His best-known works include Nana and Germinal from the Rougon-Macquart cycle .

Until 1937, the station was named "Commerce" after the adjacent Rue du Commerce. In that year, the name was to opened on July 27, 1937 near Station Commerce the pivoted line 8 forgiven.

History and description

The station was built in an open excavation and was put into operation on July 13, 1913 with the opening of the first section of Line 8. This ran from Opéra to Beaugrenelle (since 1947: Charles Michels ). On July 27, 1937, the western section of line 8 between La Motte-Picquet - Grenelle and Porte d'Auteuil was assigned to line 10.

In contrast to the elliptical cross-section, which is more common in Paris , the station has a horizontal metal ceiling. Longitudinal girders, which carry small vaults made of bricks, rest on iron support beams that are perpendicular to the direction of travel. It is 75 m long, 13.50 m wide and has 4 m wide side platforms on two main tracks.

The two entrances are on either side of Avenue Émile Zola near its intersection with Rue du Commerce. The southern one is marked by a “Val d'Osne” candelabra .
