Avenue - Das Magazin für Wissenskultur is an independent popular science journal for the humanities and social sciences in German-speaking countries. It appears quarterly and has a single theme. First, the articles are exposed to criticism via open access . Only then will the magazine and its comments be printed. The magazine is aimed at laypeople and people with degrees in the humanities and social sciences who make a living outside the academy. In short articles, cultural and humanities scholars convey knowledge and ideas from various disciplines .

The avenue makes phenomena accessible from the different perspectives of different interpretive disciplines. It reacts to the shortage of topics in public discourse and reclaims the space for analysis and interpretation by the humanities and social sciences. Knowledge is not presented as alleged factual knowledge, but mapped in the process: That is why all texts are first presented online to the open peer review and finally printed together with the authors' comments and replies. In addition to the online salon and the printed magazine, the avenue includes two other formats: Regular events promote dialogue between the academy and the public. In addition, the Avenue wall newspaper raises awareness of the humanities and social sciences.

The avenue is institutionally, politically and denominationally independent. It is financed by the founders, subscriptions, advertising, sponsors and foundation funds and is supported by the association for promoting the public image of the humanities and social sciences . It is supported by a scientific advisory board and a journalistic advisory board. The Avenue was awarded the Media Sponsorship of Academies of Science Switzerland.

The avenue is published by the mediaevalist Corinna Virchow and the philosopher of science Mario Kaiser, who founded the magazine. The Avenue works together with scientists such as Caroline Arni , Klaus Birnstiel, Elisabeth Bronfen , Matthias Däumer, Sascha Dickel, Valentin Groebner , Richard Schuberth , Peter Strasser and Klaus Theweleit .
