Avi Sagild

Avi Sagild (born February 22, 1933 in Pittsburgh , United States ; † September 19, 1995 in Copenhagen ) was an American-born actress, living in Denmark, and an avowed socialist with a weakness for the former GDR .

Life

Sagild was the daughter of the director of the film company RKO Richard Helweg Lange and was an actress for five years as a child in the United States before settling in Denmark in 1951 at the age of 18 . She quickly learned the Danish language and in 1958 began acting training at Det Kongelige Teaters elevskole (Acting School of the Royal Theater). She then worked at the Det Kongelige Teater herself, where she appeared as a stage actress in various leading roles, including in the play Indenfor Murene (Inside the Walls). She then worked at Comediehuset , Det Danske Teater and Fiolteatret in Copenhagen.

As a film actress, she played in several Danish film and television productions. On Danish television, she had her best-known appearances in the television series Fiskerne ( Die Fischer. Based on a novel by Hans Kirk ), The people of Korsbaek ( Matador ) in Kald mig Liva and in Charlot og Charlotte (Charlot and Charlotte). She became known to German audiences in particular for her role in the Danish film adaptation of Henry Miller's novel Stille Tage in Clichy in 1970.

After her death, she was buried in the old Frederiksberg cemetery ( Frederiksberg Ældre Kirkegård ).

Private

Sagild was married to the Danish musician Niels Jørgen Steen . The couple had two children together, the actress Paprika Steen and the musician and actor Nikolaj Steen . She is also the mother of musician Kim Sagild .
