Avondhu House Hotel

The Avondhu House Hotel is a former hotel and now a residential building in the Scottish town of Grangemouth in the Council Area Falkirk . In 1987 the structure was included in the Scottish List of Monuments in Category B.

The building is located in the northeast of Grangemouth off Bo'ness Road ( A904 ) not far from the associated villa Avon Hall . It was completed in 1878 for John Fairley. As an architect, J. M. McLaren is responsible for the planning. Together with Avon House, it is McLaren's first independently planned structure. In 1877 it was featured in The British Architect magazine. The two-story building, made of natural stone cut into blocks, is asymmetrical. The lavishly designed, protruding entrance area is adorned by a cantilevered balustrade . The north-facing front is dominated by a semi-elliptical protruding tower with a frieze . The skylight protruding from the conical roof has an architrave and is flanked by obelisks . A prominent, tall chimney rises to the right. At the rear is a one-story utility wing.
