description

The villa is located in northeast Grangemouth off Bo'ness Road ( A904 ). It was built for John Fairley in 1877 and completed the following year. As an architect, J. M. McLaren is responsible for the planning. Together with the nearby Avondhu House Hotel , it is McLaren's first independently planned structure. In 1877 it was featured in The British Architect magazine. The two-story building, made of embossed natural stone, has an asymmetrical structure. The entrance area with a cantilevered balustrade is located in a two-story tower. A second, semi-octagonal tower with fine ornamentation and a tent roof emerges on the left. A single-story wing adjoins it in the east. The west facade is dominated by two gable surfaces worked as a stepped gable. Distinctive chimneys protrude from the slate roofs.
