Grangemouth ( Scottish Gaelic Inbhir Ghrainnse ) is a place with a seaport in the Council Area Falkirk , Scotland . The former Scottish Burgh is at the mouth of the Carron River on the banks of the Forth . The neighboring towns are Firth of Forth , Falkirk , Bo'ness and Stirling .
The original name of the place was Camelon . With the construction of the Forth and Clyde Canal by Sir Lawrence Dundas, the new district of Camelons was to be named Sealock (German: Seeschleuse), but later the name Grange Burn Mouth was used , which became Grangemouth until around 1780.
Although the place used to have a port, it was not until the 18th century that the place began to grow economically through the construction of canals. In 1963 the canal, which has since been reopened for tourism, was closed and the section in Grangemouth was filled. In the 100 years 1885-1985 which consisted shipyard Grangemouth Dockyard Company . The current economic life of the city is mainly based on the large local petrochemicals and the seaport.
A remarkable fact is the demolition of the entire old town of the place, which was largely completed in April 2007. One very last remnant was also torn down by 2010.
