Robert Black (serial killer)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Robert Black (born April 21, 1947 in Grangemouth , Scotland , † January 12, 2016 in Lisburn , Northern Ireland ) was a British serial killer who also sexually abused children . He kidnapped, raped and murdered four girls in the 1980s, kidnapped a fifth who survived, and attempted to kidnap a sixth girl. He was suspected of having committed several other unsolved child murders in Europe since the 1970s.

Life

Robert Black was placed in a foster family by his mother after he was born and grew up with four step-siblings. He was considered an outsider and was bullied at school. His sexuality , which fixated on female contemporaries, awoke early at around eight years of age. When he was eleven, his foster mother died and he was taken in by another foster family.

Black committed sexual offenses at a young age. At the age of twelve, he attempted his first joint rape, which led to home placement. There he was sexually abused by an employee. As a 15-year-old delivery boy, he sexually abused 30 to 40 girls on his errands. It wasn't until he was 17 that one of these crimes was put on record when he choked a seven year old and masturbated over her . Despite this bodily harm and the fact that she was sexually insulted, a judicial admonition remained.

Murders

Black killed nine-year-old Jennifer Cardy on August 12, 1981, and her body was found six days later near Hillsborough . This murder could only be proven in 2011.

On July 30, 1982, Black kidnapped eleven-year-old Susan Maxwell from her hometown of Cornhill on Tweed . He raped and strangled the child and dumped her body on the roadside near Uttoxeter in Central England . On July 8, 1983, he kidnapped five-year-old Caroline Hogg from Portobello . Her body was found ten days later in a ditch near Leicestershire . Due to the putrefaction , the exact cause of death could not be determined, but the lack of clothing suggested that it was a sex crime. Three years later, on March 26, 1986, ten-year-old Sarah Harper disappeared from Morley near Leeds . She too was kidnapped, raped and murdered by Black. Her discarded body was found a month later in the River Trent near Nottingham .

Another potential murder victim was 15-year-old Teresa Thornhill, who escaped when a stranger tried to drag her into a truck. Her screams had drawn a friend of the girl's attention to the situation, who came to her aid.

The three murders have been linked by the police because the way the girls were kidnapped and their bodies dumped far away suggested a perpetrator who was mainly involved in traveling - possibly a truck driver. An extensive police operation was started for the investigation.

Arrest and lawsuits

Robert Black was arrested near Stow on July 14, 1990 after he was seen dragging a six-year-old girl from the street into his van. A witness notified the police, who were looking for the van and stopped Black. The girl's father was involved in the manhunt himself as a police officer and was the one who finally found his daughter - bound, gagged and hidden in a sleeping bag - in the van. The medical examination revealed that Black had sexually abused the child seriously.

A search of Black's house revealed a large collection of child pornography. A daily newspaper was also seized from Black that reported on Teresa Thornhill's kidnapping attempt. Traces of Black sperm were found on this report.

In August, Black was sentenced to life imprisonment for kidnapping. When the police also demonstrated involvement in the above killings, a second trial was held. In this Black was sentenced again to life imprisonment with a minimum serving time of 32 years for triple murder.

On December 8, 2011, Black was sentenced to 25 years in prison for the murder of Jennifer Cardy, and could not have been released until he was 89 years old.

Robert Black died in a Northern Ireland prison in January 2016 at the age of 68. At the time of his unexpected death was his indictment for the disappearance and presumed murder of 13-year-old Genette Tate in 1978 in Aylesbeare ( Devon ) imminent.
