Axel Genrich (born March 24, 1945 ) is a German guitarist .

biography

He started in the 1960s with Skiffle and the Rockin´Chairs, a beat group. After leaving, he began studying in '67 and also played in various underground bands. So he got to know the band Agitation Free , with whom he played the guitar for three months in 1970. It was there and before that he developed his style of improvisation.

In mid-1970 he joined the group Guru Guru. Together with his bandmates, Uli Trepte and Mani Neumeier , Genrich celebrated some successes in the early 1970s. Not least because of this time, Guru Guru is still considered one of the outstanding representatives of the so-called Krautrock .

In 1974 Genrich left Guru Guru . In 1975 his first solo LP Highdelberg appeared with the participation of some well-known Krautrockers ( Hellmut Hattler , Jan Fride and Peter Wolbrandt von Kraan , Mani Neumeier , Dieter Moebius , Hans-Joachim Roedelius , Conny Plank ).

In the early 1980s he founded the trio RIF, punk rock music with German lyrics and released the transmitter cassette Reality, nix bla bla . Later it became an edited CD with the help of Michael Tandler. In the 1990s he released the solo albums Psychedelic Guitar and Wave Cut on ATM Records. In 2003 he founded Psychedelic Monsterjam with Mani Neumeier and Dave Schmidt . There are two live CDs from that time on Sunhair Records. At the same time, Ax played guitar with various cover bands. In 2007 and 2008 he played occasionally in Zone Six performances , including 2007 at the Psychedelic Network Festival and 2008 at the Roadburn Festival . In February 2009 a CD was released with pieces from various live performances from the 1990s, Ax Genrich Spontaneous Combustion on the Sunhair label and the compilation Axymoron on Sireena Records. In September 2009 he recorded the CD and LP Psy Valley Hill with Mani Neumeier, Guy Segers and Mario Engelter , which was released in 2010 under Gurumaniax at Bureau b. appears.

He is currently traveling with his band "Ax Genrich & Band". New CDs are available from Ax Genrich & Band, live at the Finkenbach Festival A Trip to Paradise , Ax Genrich & Band Fretboard Jungle (CD & LP), Ax Genrich & Band "In a world of Dinosaurs", Ax Genrich & Band "Out of the Desert "(CD & LP) The LP will be released by Clostridium Records. Ax Genrich & Band consisted of Ax Genrich on guitar, with Mario Fadani on bass and Steff Bollack on drums. Mani Neumeier, Roland Schäffer and Matz Kraus were there as guests. For "Out of the Desert" the line-up changed: Ax Genrich guitar, Edgar Türk bass, André Peiter drums, Uli Faust percussion. At the moment the band consists of Ax Genrich guitar, Edgar Türk bass and Axel "Aggy" Spreitzer drums. A new LP is planned "The Melting Butter Sessions". Like "Out of the Desert", it will also be recorded in the Rama Studio in Mannheim.

In 2018 Ax Genrich was again on stage with Guru Guru. At the Finkenbach Festival, he played the "LSD March" with the band on the occasion of their 50th stage anniversary.
