Axel Gundrum

Axel Gundrum (* 1953 in Hagen ) is a German painter, graphic artist and sculptor.

Life

Gundrum was born in Hagen in Westphalia and grew up in Lotte-Halen . After graduating from school, he completed an apprenticeship as a screen printer in Osnabrück . He studied at the technical school for design in Osnabrück, graduating as a design engineer. In 1978 he moved to Osnabrück and in 1999 to Bramsche -Malgarten, where he had a studio and residence in the Malgarten monastery . There he also built the “Gallery in the Malgarten Monastery”. He has lived and worked in Potsdam since 2004 .

Gundrum is a member of the Melpomene artist group. He describes himself as "postmodern" .

Works in public space

In the public space of the city of Osnabrück there are two works by Gundrum that he created for the “Hexenwahn” memorial . The large-format paintings commemorate the execution of 276 women and two men in the city in the 16th and 17th centuries. They take up works by the Osnabrück painter Felix Nussbaum (1904–1944) who was murdered in Auschwitz .
