Axel Moberg

Karl Axel Moberg (born June 15, 1872 in Norrköping , † August 11, 1955 ) was a Swedish orientalist and university professor.

Life

In 1890 Moberg became a student in Lund , in 1902 he became a lecturer in Semitic languages and received his doctorate in 1903. In 1908 he became professor of oriental languages at Lund University . From 1926 to 1936 he was the rector of the university.

Moberg was considered an excellent expert on the Syrian language . His most important work in this area is Book of Rays, the greater grammar of Barhebräus, translation from a critically corrected text (II, 1907; I, 1913). Further works are Ur c Abd allâh b. c Abd ez-Zâhir's biografi över sultanen el-Melik el-Ašraf Ḥalil (1902), poems by c Obeidallāh b. Ahmed al-Mîkāli (1908) and the edition of the Book of the Himjars (1924).
