Axel Paulsch (* 1966 in Pforzheim ) is a German geoecologist .

Life

After his community service at BUND in Ulm , Axel Paulsch studied geoecology at the University of Bayreuth from 1988 . During his studies he dealt with the main subjects of biogeography , vegetation science, forest dynamics and environmental problems in developing countries. In his diploma thesis, he described the ecological strategy of the conifer Araucaria araucana in its relic areas in Chile.

He later investigated the influence of herbivory on plant communities in the side valleys of this mountain, which are used to varying degrees for tourism, in the Afro-Alpine zone of Mount Kenya . In his dissertation, Paulsch developed a classification system based on vegetation structures for undisturbed and disturbed tropical mountain forests using the example of southern Ecuador . This system enables larger forest areas to be quickly broken down into individual forest types based on physiognomic criteria .

Axel Paulsch has been with the Institute for Biodiversity since 2002 . From 2009 to 2012 he was at the Helmholtz Center for Environmental Research , where he represented the policy interface in the Network Forum for Biodiversity Research Germany project . Within the ibn network, he oversees the development of the Carpathian Biodiversity Information System (CBIS) projects and proposals for a cross-border biotope network in the Western Carpathians and analysis of the research needs from CBD programs and decisions by COP 10 .

Memberships

Paulsch is a member of BUND, NABU , the German Society for Ecology , the German Society for Tropical Ecology and Diversitas Deutschland eV He is the first chairman of the ibn and board member of Aktion Zwerggans eV
