Axel Wagner (* 1969 in Koblenz ) is a German science journalist and biologist .

Life

Axel Wagner studied biology , geography , paleontology and journalism at the University of Tübingen , the University of Mainz , the University of Bonn , the University of Ljubljana and the Free University of Berlin . With a study on the behavior of wild brown bears in central Slovenia, he received his diploma as a biologist (University of Bonn, 1998). After completing his scientific training, he studied science journalism (FU Berlin, graduation 1999).

Journalism

Axel Wagner works in the field of audiovisual media for public broadcasting. Since 1999 he has been a member of the editorial team in the science and education department of the SWR in Baden-Baden . From there he works for the broadcasters of the ARD in front of and behind the camera as a presenter, editor, director and speaker. For the show Odysso , the knowledge magazine of SWR television, he works as the head of the service. He has produced numerous news films, reports and documentaries. From 2002 to 2003 he moderated the educational magazine Planet Wissen (SWR / WDR / BR) with Birgit Klaus . In 2009 he produced and presented the report format “I am nano” (3sat). Since 2010 he has presented the TV knowledge format “frag odysso with Axel Wagner” (SWR television).

In 2013 he published his book "Das Tier in Dir" by Frederking und Thaler. This work is based on research for the TV documentary of the same name (SWR / WDR / Schweizer Fernsehen). It was honored with the “ Knowledge Book of the Year 2013” ​​award.

Teaching

Axel Wagner teaches science communication at various universities, institutions and organizations. He is a lecturer at the National Institute for Science Communication (NaWik) and lecturer at the House of Competence (HoC) at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology .
