Axel Wehrend

Axel Wehrend (* 1967 ) is a German veterinarian and lecturer at the Justus Liebig University in Giessen . He has been on the board of the Academy for Veterinary Training since 2008 and its chairman since 2012.

Life

Wehrend studied veterinary medicine at the University of Veterinary Medicine Hannover and received his license to practice medicine in 1995 . He then completed a postgraduate course at the University of Veterinary Medicine in Hanover and was a research assistant at the Institute for Reproductive Medicine until 1998 . In 1997 he received his doctorate with a thesis on gene expression in cumulus- oocyte complexes. In January 1998 he switched to the Clinic for Obstetrics, Gynecology and Andrology at the Justus Liebig University in Giessen. In 2002 he was qualified as a veterinarian for breeding hygiene and biotechnology of reproduction as well as the Diplomate of the European College for reproduction. In 2003 he completed his habilitation and in 2006 accepted a professorship at the outpatient and obstetric veterinary clinic at the University of Leipzig . In 2007 he followed a call back to the Clinic for Obstetrics, Gynecology and Andrology at the Justus Liebig University in Giessen. Since 2010 he has been director of the Veterinary Medicine Clinic at the Justus Liebig University in Giessen.

Wehrend is editor of the magazine Tierärztliche Praxis Großtiere , chairman of the specialist group Reproduction and its disorders of the German Veterinary Medical Society and a member of the board of the German Society for Small Animal Medicine . Since 2008 he has been chairman of the Academy for Veterinary Training.
