Ayne Bru

Ayne Bru , possibly Hans Brün (born before 1502 - died after 1506) was probably a German or Dutch painter around 1500. Dates and other facts about his life are not known, but it is known that he was in the years From 1502 to 1507 he worked in the Catalan monastery of Sant Cugat del Vallès , where he was rewarded princely for his work.

Only two of his paintings are known and are now kept in the Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya (MNAC) in Barcelona:

  1. The altarpiece for St. Cucuphas sacred monastery church Sant Cugat del Vallès shows the martyrdom of tied to an arm of a dead tree saints in light of the monastery church, whose bell tower is still unfinished. The executioner, pulling the martyr's head back by the mop of hair, wears a turban , a long robe with rolled up sleeves, and gauntlet boots, and is in the process of separating his head from the torso with a long knife. Spread out on the floor is the purple robe of the saint, soaked in blood; to the right a sleeping dog and three men whose identities are unclear. A landscape can be seen in the background. Above the scene, the soul of the deceased is carried up to heaven by two angels on a white cloth.
  2. The portrait of an armored and weapon-bearing unknown man in front of a punched gold background, originally associated with the first-mentioned altarpiece, is sometimes called a portrait of St. George or St. Candidus interpreted.
