Azet (daily newspaper)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Azet (short for evening newspaper ) was a daily newspaper in the GDR . It was an evening paper and appeared from March 1, 1965 to September 30, 1975 in Leipzig and Halle .

The Azet was published by the SED and, like all newspapers in the GDR, was politically controlled. The Azet was sold in all kiosks and newspaper distributors in Leipzig and Halle. The copy cost 10 pfennigs and, due to its low price, was often used to camouflage items such as Eulenspiegel or magazines , but also by specialist newspapers.

There were hawkers at Leipzig Central Station who loudly praised the Azet.
