B&B Hotels is a French economy hotel chain that was founded in Brest (Finistère) in 1990 and has since expanded into several European countries. At the end of 2019, the chain had more than 500 hotels , 126 of them in Germany. The company has been owned by various private equity investors since 2003 and in the hands of the US bank Goldman Sachs from May 2019 .

The concept of the brand provides to offer the customer an inexpensive yet comfortable overnight accommodation without costly details, especially in personnel-intensive areas. The reception is only temporarily occupied. Outside the reception hours there is a vending machine for drinks and sweets . The bill is paid at check-in, there is no explicit check-out.
The history of B&B Hotels
The economy hotel group B&B Hotels was founded in 1990 by the French company Galaxie SA. By 2005, 117 B&B hotels had been built across France. In 1998, the company founded Galaxie GmbH in Germany, which was renamed B&B Hotels GmbH in 2006.

The development of B&B Hotels in Germany

In 1997 the subsidiary Galaxie GmbH was founded by Galaxie SA. This was followed by the opening of the first hotel in Ingolstadt in September of the same year. The second house opened less than a year later in Genshagen near Berlin. This was followed by the Hanover and Cologne locations in 2000. The following year, Braunschweig, Leipzig and Würselen near Aachen were added. In 2002 the company managed to grow further and to set up another branch in Bochum / Herne.
In 2006, B&B Hotels GmbH emerged from a change of name to Galaxie GmbH. In the same year additional branches were founded in Frankfurt-Niederrad and Munich-Messe. In the following years another 51 hotels were added across Germany.
In 2013 B&B Hotels GmbH was named “Most Wanted Investment Partner” by the TREUGAST Solutions Group among 71 examined hotel companies in Germany. This award honors the hotel group that recorded the largest increase in capacity through new buildings from the previous year. In 2016 and 2017 the company received the award again.
B&B Hotels is one of the hotel groups in Germany with the largest number of hotels. In the economy segment, the hotel chain even ranks first. The growth strategy envisages opening around 15 more B&B hotels each year. At the end of 2019 there were a total of 126 B&B Hotels GmbH in Germany with over 13,000 rooms. More new openings are planned for 2020 in Kempten, Bamberg, Kiel and Rostock, among others.
B&B Hotels worldwide
The B&B hotel chain operates over 480 hotels in 12 countries across Europe. As the third largest economy hotel group in France, it operates over 270 hotels there, in Italy there are already 33 hotels, in Spain over 25 hotels, there are six houses in Poland, two in Switzerland and Brazil and one each in the Czech Republic and Portugal , Belgium, Slovenia and Austria. There are also 124 houses in Germany.

"The Sch (l) af"
The hotel chain's mascot is a white sheep called "Sleep". He developed his own online game , a Facebook fan page and a commercial about B&B Hotels.
