Bárður Jákupsson [ ˈbɔaːɹʊɹ ˈjɔakʊpsːɔn ] (born December 23, 1943 in Tórshavn , Faroe Islands ) is a Faroese painter , graphic artist and author of art books.

Life

Bárður is the son of Hans Jacob Jacobsen (known as a poet under the pseudonym Heðin Brú ) and Katrina Malena Dalsgaard. In 1967 he married the textbook author Kristin Hervør Lützen from Gjógv . The couple now live in Hoyvík . Together they have three sons Róaldur (* 1974), Sveinur (* 1976) and Heðin (* 1980).

Bárður Jákupsson studied after his teacher training from 1970 to 1972 at the painting school of the Royal Danish Art Academy in Copenhagen . Initially he was a teacher at the Faroe Islands Folk High School and from 1978 director of the Faroe Islands Art Gallery . He is one of the most active contemporary artists in the North Atlantic archipelago. In addition to his many coloristic and expressionistic paintings, he is also known for his book illustrations and, above all, various series of postage stamps that he designed by Postverk Føroya .

Bárður Jákupsson is also an important author of books on Faroese art . From 2001 to 2002 he produced an eleven-part television series on the same topic. Works by him can also be seen in the new Faroese overseas ferry Norröna .
