Bear Claw (Altenberg)

Bärenklau is a district of the place Bärenstein , which today belongs to Altenberg ( district of Saxon Switzerland-Eastern Ore Mountains ).

In 1654 the place was a Hammergut, in 1791 a hammer mill that belonged to the manor Bärenstein ( Pirna ). From the hammer mill finally developed a Vorwerk with a group of houses. In 1867 Otto Raffloer built a cardboard factory here. The administrative affiliation of Bärenklau was in 1875 with the Amtshauptmannschaft Dippoldiswalde . In 1834 18 people lived in the village, in 1875 there were 48. The spelling of the place name has remained the same since 1654. During the GDR era, the “ Georgi Dimitroff ” convalescent home was located in Bärenklau.
