The bearded Winkerzikade ( Idiocerus herrichii ) is a leafhopper from the subfamily of the Winker cicadas (Idiocerinae).

features

The brown-white-black patterned cicadas are 6–6.2 mm long. The wing veins have a black-white-yellow color pattern. In the field of vision, there is a light edge strip on the inside of the compound eyes. Also located on the forehead and on the neck shield centered a broad bright stripes. The label has three dark triangular spots at the base and a horseshoe-shaped dark spot at the back. There is a feeler under each of the compound eyes. The males have antennae flagella. In addition, there are short hairs below the compound eyes, from which the German trivial name is apparently derived.

Occurrence

Idiocerus herrichii is widespread in Central Europe. In the south of England the species used to be less common than it is today. The distribution area extends in the north to Fennoscandinavia , in the west to France, in the south to Italy and Greece and in the east to the Middle East and the eastern Palearctic .

Way of life

Idiocerus herrichii can be found on various types of willow ( Salix ), especially on white willow ( Salix alba ) and broken willow ( Salix fragilis ). The adults of a generation usually fly and overwinter from the beginning of July to the end of May of the following year.
