Béatrice Patrie

Béatrice Patrie (born May 12, 1957 in Lorient ) is a French politician ( Mouvement des citoyens or Socialist Party ). She was a member of the European Parliament from 1999 to 2009 .

Career

After graduation u. a. Béatrice Patrie studied law at the École nationale de la magistrature in Bordeaux . Afterwards she worked as an investigative judge ( juge d'instruction ), as a district judge ( juge d'Instance ) for family law ( juge aux affaires familiales ). Eventually she became chairman of a Tribunal de Grande Instance (roughly equivalent to a regional court ). She became president of the French judges' union.

Her political activity began in 1994 with the support of Lionel Jospin . In 1999 she joined the European Parliament as a member of the Mouvement des citoyens , which was critical of the Maastricht Treaty . In early December 2002 she joined the French Socialist Party. During her time in the European Parliament, she belonged to the Group of the Party of European Socialists until the group was renamed the Socialist Group in the European Parliament in 2004, then she was a member of the latter group until she left Parliament. From September 20, 2004 to July 13, 2009, she chaired the delegation for relations with the Mashrek countries in parliament.
