The White Mountain ( Czech Bílá hora ) is located on the western outskirts of Prague on the right side above the valley of the Litovický potok .
geography
The White Mountain has a height of 379 meters. It is located in the Ruzyně district in the 6th district and can be reached from downtown Prague in around 25 to 30 minutes by public transport (tram lines 22 and 25). In the future, metro line A to Prague Airport will have the nearby Bílá hora station.
history
The first decisive battle of the Thirty Years' War , the Battle of the White Mountain , took place here on November 8, 1620 . Ferdinand I set up a game reserve on the White Mountain in 1530. In 1555, with the construction of the Stern pleasure palace, based on a design by Ferdinand II of Tyrol . The renaissance castle is characterized above all by its star-shaped floor plan. From 1622 to 1624 a chapel was built southeast of the actual White Mountain, which was first dedicated to St. Wenceslas and later to the Virgin Mary. From 1708 to 1730 the master builder and painter Christian Luna converted the Marienkapelle into a spacious pilgrimage church.
