The Börnersche Haus (also Augustinerhaus ) was a late baroque town house in the street An der Frauenkirche 17 in Dresden . It was built in 1761 based on a design by Samuel Locke and destroyed in 1945. In 2008 the property was rebuilt with a reconstruction of the historic house.

history

The building was probably built from a previous building that was destroyed during a Prussian bombardment on July 19, 1760 . On January 9, 1761, the ruins were purchased by the merchant Johann Gottlieb Börner. The new building was erected at the end of the same year. In 1945 the house was destroyed. In the 2000s, the house was reconstructed with a re-creation of its baroque exterior.

description

The ground floor of the five-axis house is separated from the upper floor by a cornice . The central axis emerges as a risalit from the wall surface and is specially decorated. Below the two right window axes is the rococo portal with a basket arch. The courtyard is a free re-creation, in it there is still an originally preserved fountain with a water-spouting satyr mask.

Art historical significance

According to Stefan Hertzig , the house was one of the more elaborate buildings in Dresden from the period after 1760, particularly because of the "rich, elegant, antique decor [s]" in the central axis. The decorated central axis stood in a “contrasting contrast” to the axes in the reserve, which were mostly smooth and unadorned. Also Cornelius Gurlitt praised the decorated central axis - "A window system in the axis treats rich".
