The Bötzsee is a lake about four kilometers long and 400 meters wide, which extends between the places Altlandsberg and Strausberg in the Märkisch-Oderland district of Brandenburg . It is part of the Strausberger and Blumenthaler forest and lake area and is in the immediate vicinity of numerous other lakes, such as the catcher and Straus lakes .

Location and surroundings

The southwestern bank of the Bötzsee belongs to the Eggersdorf district of the Petershagen / Eggersdorf community . Here you will find - somewhat hidden, accessible via the Tulpenstrasse junction on Altlandsberger Chaussee - a lido guarded in summer, rowing boat rental and the “Seeschloss” hotel and café-restaurant, built in 1906. On April 18, 2014, the electric ship "Sunny Manuela" began operating with a capacity of 120 people on the Bötzsee. The main pier is in front of the “Seeschloss” hotel next to the municipal boat rental.

The recreation, bungalow and residential area “Postbruch”, part of the town of Strausberg, is located on the somewhat steeper eastern shore of the lake . The “Postbruchhütte” restaurant, built in 1910, was closed in 2005 and converted into a residential building. At the northern end of the Bötzsee are the historic excursion restaurants "Alte Spitzmühle" and "Neue Spitzmühle", which were once very popular. Both restaurants have been closed since 2011 and 2014 respectively. From here, the next lake, the Fängersee , can be reached after only about 400 meters .

The entire Bötzsee is almost completely surrounded by forest. On its banks there are stocks of protected plants such as the wood anemone. There are countless small, "wild" bathing areas on all sides. The circumnavigation of the Bötzsee is possible on a freely accessible shore path in about three hours on foot.

Emergence

The formation of the Bötzsee goes back to the last so-called Vistula Ice Age . Together with the catcher and game lakes, it lies in a glacial glacial valley that formed with numerous rivers and lakes after the large ice masses melted.

The inflow and outflow of the Bötzsee is the Fredersdorfer Mühlenfließ , which also runs through Petershagen / Eggersdorf and whose connection to the lake can be easily observed at the outdoor pool on the southwest side.

Others

Traffic by boats with combustion engines is not allowed on the Bötzsee. The water quality is consistently good. In summer the lake is a popular destination for day trippers from Berlin and Brandenburg.
