Bübingen (Perl)

Bübingen is part of the Nennig municipality in the Perl municipality in the Merzig-Wadern district ( Saarland ).

The village is Bübingen during the Frankish conquest created a Frankish manor, which because of its strategic location on the Moselle in the years 1330-1340 from Luxembourg country Probst Gobel from Remich to Wasserburg was expanded. It was located in the area of rule Nennig until 1769, on the Elector of Trier , the Duke of Lorraine and the Duke of Luxembourg shared the sovereignty exercised. Here was Castle Bübingen seat a Luxembourg rule and the close location Schlossberg seat of the Lorraine rule. The inhabitants of Nennig, which at that time already consisted of the districts Nennig, Wies, Berg and Bübingen, were therefore subjects of different lords. The village and castle of Bübingen were badly destroyed in 1668 by French troops under Marshal Créquy . The splintered shares in the castle and rule Bübingen came to the Maringh family at the beginning of the 18th century. The village, which was never completely rebuilt, merged with the village of Wies over time. During the heavy fighting for the Orscholzriegel at the end of 1944 / beginning of 1945, Bübingen Castle served the German defenders as an observation post. In January / February 1945 it was attacked and destroyed by the American 94th Infantry Division.
