The Bücknitzer Heide is a forest area in the west of the state of Brandenburg north of the city of Ziesar . It developed on a fine sandy alluvial cone , which is of Ice Age origin. This alluvial cone was washed up by the Buckau or pre-existing rivers on the southern edge of the Baruther glacial valley . The Bücknitzer Heide forms the transition between the lower-lying wetland Fiener Bruch , which is narrowest to the north of the Bücknitzer Heide, and the higher-lying Vorflming in the south. The village of Bücknitz on the southern edge gave its name to the heather . The forest is mainly populated with pine monocultures . In the landscape framework plan of the Potsdam-Mittelmark district , the Bücknitzer Heide is a development focus for the preservation and upgrading of pine forests in dry and warm locations. The Bücknitzer Heide is crossed by the state road 96 from Fiener Damm in the north to south to Ziesar.
