The lunar crater Bürg is located in the center of the 150 km large Lacus Mortis in the northeastern part of the front of the moon . It has high terraced walls and a pronounced double central mountain .

Close by on the southern edge of Lacus Mortis are the Crater Plana and the Crater Mason .

To the east of Bürg, the ridge system of the Rimae Bürg runs in a south-westerly direction , which at one point also breaks through the wall edge of Lacus Mortis.

The crater was officially named by the IAU in 1935 after the Austrian astronomer Johann Tobias Bürg .
