The Auer Bürgerhaus

The Bürgerhaus Aue at Postplatz 3 in Aue is the listed former residential building of the factory owner Friedrich Wilhelm Gantenberg from 1906, the former Villa Gantenberg . It has served as a multi-generation house since its last renovation in 1993 .

history

The house was commissioned from the architect Max Fricke by the underwear manufacturer Gantenberg, who has been producing in Aue since 1874 . He designed a two-story Art Nouveau villa for the private property on the former Ernst-Geßner-Platz . By 1906 the house was built with a field stone plinth, wooden bay window and outside staircase as well as a hexagonal pointed tower and was used by the Gantenberg family for residential purposes until 1937. Then the theater owner Max Adler from purchased Oelsnitz the building, including a large plot on which here in Aue a modern movie theater to be built. In a short time the city administration had given its approval, the pompous cinema building was built in neo-classical style and soon invited those interested in film to screenings. Adler made his former home available to the local branch of the NSDAP .

After the fall of the Hitler regime at the end of World War II , the Soviet occupying power established its city command in this villa in August 1945 and used it until 1950. After that, the German authorities took over the house and handed it over to the medical college as a boarding school and teaching facility for training of infant nurses. When the technical school was able to move completely into a new building on the Zeller Berg, the city administration designated the building as the headquarters of the Society for German-Soviet Friendship . Employees of this social organization put a painting inside that showed the Russian writer Alexander Pushkin , which is why the villa was now commonly called the “Pushkin House” among the population. Other social organizations such as the Democratic Women's Association Germany (DFD) and the National Front were also present in the house. It was used in this way until shortly after the political change in 1991, after which it stood empty for some time.

In order to save the former factory owner's villa from deterioration, a number of projects were developed and a development association for youth, cultural and social centers in Aue was founded. Under his responsibility and with the help of sponsors and volunteers, the house was extensively renovated. As a result of its intended use, the old villa was given the new name Bürgerhaus Aue and was reopened in April 1993. Because of the wide range of offers for all age groups, ranging from childcare, lunch tables for schoolchildren, courses, swap exchanges, internet cafés, cultural events to use by those interested in church, the community center was included in the federal multi-generation house program.
