The BIZ - Citizens' Initiative Future for Koblenz eV (short form: BIZ Koblenz eV ) is an association of individuals who are politically active in the city of Koblenz ( Rhineland-Palatinate ). The BIZ Koblenz is an association registered with the Koblenz District Court , which, according to the electoral law of the State of Rhineland-Palatinate, was first approved as a voter group for local elections in Koblenz in 2009. The chairman of the association is Stephan Wefelscheid.

history

The BIZ emerged in 2009 as a group of voters from the Citizens' Initiative Zentralplatz, which was founded by ECE Project Management in 2007 when the plans to build a large shopping center on Koblenz Central Square became known. Despite the more than 20,000 signatures against the so-called Forum Mittelrhein , the Koblenz City Council decided to continue planning. The shopping center has now been completed.

In the 2009 local elections, the BIS immediately won 10.09% of the vote and, with six out of 56 seats, was the third largest parliamentary group (on par with the Greens parliamentary group ) in the city council of Koblenz. Stephan Wefelscheid has been chairman of the parliamentary group since the beginning of 2012. His deputy is Michael Gross, who chaired the parliamentary group from 2009 until the end of 2011. On October 31, 2011, a member of the CDU parliamentary group converted to the BIS parliamentary group. With seven out of a total of 56 seats, the BIZ is now the third largest parliamentary group in the Koblenz City Council.

It is interesting from a legal historical point of view that two members of the BIS parliamentary group, in their capacity as members of an independent parliamentary group, appealed against a decision of the city council in the previous electoral term. The Oberverwaltungsgericht Koblenz (OVG) rejected the lawsuit because parliamentary groups expire with the next election and therefore no longer have the right to sue ( discontinuity ).

In November 2012, the BIS adopted its new basic program 10 points for Koblenz for the years 2013 to 2015, which also formed the basis for the local elections that took place in 2014.

In the 2014 local elections, the BIS received 5.4% of the vote (minus 4.6% compared to 2009), so that the BIS is represented in the Koblenz City Council with three out of 56 seats (minus three seats). On February 2, 2015, Mrs. Gabriele Hofmann, who was not party to the party, moved from the “Die Linke” parliamentary group to the BIS parliamentary group. The BIS parliamentary group now has four seats on the city council.

As of October 1, 2018, the BIZ merged with the State Association of Free Voters Rhineland-Palatinate and is now called Free Voters Koblenz, with four seats on the Koblenz City Council. It is no longer a group of voters , but the local division of a party .
