Radio Weser.TV is the joint broadcasting title of the four broadcasters Bürgerrundfunk Bremen , Bürgerfunk Bremer Umland eV, Bürgerrundfunk Bremerhaven and Bürgerrundfunk Wesermündung e. V . Under the motto “Four stations - one program”, they operate a TV and radio channel each in Bremen and Bremerhaven, including the surrounding area.

Citizen Broadcasting

The broadcasting systems and production equipment of the broadcasters participating in Radio Weser.TV are available free of charge as citizens' broadcasters to all citizens of the respective catchment areas for the production and broadcasting of their own programs. Formal registration and an introductory course in production technology and media law are required for this. The conditions differ slightly between the individual institutions.

prehistory

The Bremen Citizens Broadcasting Corporation was an institution of the Bremen State Media Authority. On August 14, 1992, it began operating the television station as “Offener Kanal Bremen”, and since February 25, 1994, it also had its own radio program. The radio program of the Bürgerrundfunk Bremen could be received in the Bremen area on VHF 92.5 MHz, as well as on the Bremen cable network on 101.85 MHz.

The Citizens Broadcasting Service Bremerhaven began operating the television station in 1993 as the "Offener Kanal Bremerhaven". As part of Sail Bremerhaven 1995, his radio program also started, at that time still on the FM 106.2 MHz frequency. Later the radio station could be received via antenna in Bremerhaven and the surrounding area on VHF 90.7 MHz and in the local cable network on the frequency 96.95 MHz.

On April 1, 2005, after an amendment to the state media law, the open channels became the Bremen Citizens Broadcasting Corporation and the Bremerhaven Citizens Broadcasting Corporation, which were also allowed to broadcast self-produced contributions. This allowed the citizens' broadcaster to produce additional program contributions under the title "Event TV". These were above all uncommented recordings of events in the town hall, the Bremen citizenship or the Bremerhaven city council , of established parties as well as cultural and sporting events, which were intended to secure the right to exist of citizens' broadcasting with regard to the common criticism of open channels. However, the changes only affected the television program. An increasing participation of cultural institutions could be observed on the radio, since 2005 programs from the Kunst- und Künstlerhaus Schwankhalle , from the Kulturwerkstatt Westend, the Lonely Planet Boy and some other institutions have been broadcast regularly .

The television stations of the Bremen and Bremerhaven citizens broadcast both daily from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on the cable network of the respective city: the daily program was broadcast from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., before there were repetitions. The meetings of the Bremen citizenship are regularly broadcast live.

Merger

The merger of the four participating broadcasters took place in order to standardize the appearance of the channels. Since the beginning of the takeover of the Bremerhaven TV program on the Bremer Kabelkanal and vice versa, a total of five stations with different logos and on-air designs have broadcast on one channel. In particular, the Lower Saxony broadcasters, which each had only one broadcast day and a few separate broadcast windows, were hardly perceived by the public as independent broadcasters. Furthermore, through the conversion of the Bremen and Bremerhaven Open Channels into citizens 'broadcasting stations, the broadcasters' concepts and orders had come so much closer together that closer cooperation appeared to be sensible. Since April 1, 2008, the four broadcasters have had a largely uniform logo and on-air design, as well as a joint website on which all four broadcasters offer information and content.

TV channel

Radio Weser.TV broadcasts in the Bremer and Bremerhaven cable networks, as well as the cable networks of the surrounding Lower Saxony municipalities on Kabelkanal 12. Here, the program from Bremen or the Bremen area of the previous day is broadcast from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the program from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. from Bremerhaven or the Bremerhaven area. From 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., the stations broadcast their respective main program, so during this time the program of the Bremen and Bremerhaven canals differs. The program of the news channel EuroNews will be played between 10 p.m. and 10 a.m. The Radio Weser.TV program can also be received via live stream on the Internet.
