Bürgerseen is the name of a local recreation area in Kirchheim unter Teck in the Esslingen district in Baden-Württemberg. The citizens' lakes consist of three lakes, the "Lower Lake", the "Middle Lake" and the "Upper Lake".

location

The citizens' lakes are located in the valley forest between Kirchheim unter Teck and the Nürtingen district of Reudern . The Hahnweide glider airfield borders to the northeast .

history

More than 100 years ago, the master cooper Georg Mayer asked the municipal council of the city of Kirchheim to let him have an area on the Talbach in order to lease the fish ponds there and to set up a fish farm. The fish ponds themselves are older. As early as 1721 they were mentioned in city court records. The lakes were not only used for fish farming. In winter, people could skate there if the lakes were frozen. In summer you could go boating. Bathing was not allowed in the past.

use

Since 1956, the “Verein der Bürgerseefreunde eV” has looked after the lake landscape, maintaining the balance between nature on the one hand and local recreation on the other.

The lower lake offers swimming opportunities with specially created islands and barbecue areas. In winter, when the lake is frozen, ice skating is possible and generally permitted there. There is a kiosk right by the lake that is open every day.

The Middle and Upper Lakes are reserved for flora and fauna; swimming is not permitted there. The Middle Lake is a fishing water. The Upper Lake with its bank areas is considered a biotope with species-rich bank plants. Small reeds, hedgehog cobs and marsh irises are just as much a part of it as reeds and marsh plants. There is a water educational trail and a nature discovery trail.

The lakes are located in the 1.16.063 Kirchheim unter Teck nature reserve . Parts of the bank areas of all lakes and the entire Middle Lake are protected as a biotope.
